{"id":1866,"date":"2024-11-22T00:40:06","date_gmt":"2024-11-22T00:40:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/KP2\/?p=1866"},"modified":"2024-11-04T18:04:09","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T18:04:09","slug":"november-22-the-error-of-thanklessness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/november-22-the-error-of-thanklessness\/","title":{"rendered":"November 22, the error of thanklessness"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"1866\" class=\"elementor elementor-1866\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-783da0a0 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"783da0a0\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-742ac37e\" data-id=\"742ac37e\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-16bd425b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"16bd425b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p><strong>They did not honor God nor give thanks to Him.<\/strong> Romans 1:21<\/p>\n\n<p>The Bible remains very clear on the actions and attitudes God calls sin.\u00a0\u00a0And, sins are always characterized as those destructive vices that can cause the downfall of a person or society.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Among the many specific vices and sins listed, there is a surprising inclusion:\u00a0\u00a0<em>thanklessness<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Yes, the spirit of ingratitude ranks in the Bible among other attitudes that God rejects.\u00a0\u00a0Thanklessness represents a sinful disposition.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they\u00a0became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Romans 1:21)<\/p>\n\n<p>In this verse, the omission of thankfulness to God reflects the seed bed of sinfulness.\u00a0\u00a0When we cease to be thankful, our attention moves from God to ourselves. We then become futile in our thinking and bent on pleasing self.\u00a0\u00a0Tragically we lose sight of the glory of God. This is why among the sinfulness and depravity described in the first chapter of Romans, thanklessness is recognized.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Conversely then, thankfulness is the act of a heart consecrated to God.\u00a0\u00a0And today we need to understand the significance of living daily in a spirit of gratitude toward God.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized is-style-default\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1868\" src=\"https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/KP2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/hands-folded-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"283\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/hands-folded-1.jpeg 509w, https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/hands-folded-1-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/>\n<figcaption>Women raise their hands to ask for blessing from God.<\/figcaption>\n<\/figure>\n\n<p>So, although Romans 1:21 offers a negative application, we are given the needful reminder of our responsibility to be thankful.\u00a0\u00a0Thanklessness fails to acknowledge God as we should \u2013 failing to acknowledge God\u2019s faithfulness to us.\u00a0\u00a0We are called to honor God and to be thankful unto Him.\u00a0\u00a0For in this way we signify God\u2019s activity of goodness and we glorify His nature.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>So, consider the call to thankfulness as representing more than just a recognition of blessings. Thankfulness truly honors the activity and nature of our God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>Today as you worship our Lord, come into His presence with thanksgiving:<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Enter His gates with thanksgiving<br \/><\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>and His courts\u00a0with praise;<br \/><\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>give thanks to Him and praise His name<\/em>.\u201d (Psalm 100:4)<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0Charles Spurgeon observed of this verse:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThankfulness in worship is like the incense in the temple.\u00a0<em>The whole place should be filled with the gratitude of God\u2019s people.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>We are receivers of grace.\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s goodness has powerfully and mercifully fallen on us.\u00a0\u00a0So, every receiver of mercy must be a giver of thanks.\u00a0\u00a0This is not simply a good act.\u00a0\u00a0This is our identity, our responsibility, and our privilege.\u00a0\u00a0May we never cease to be thankful.\u00a0\u00a0Let us live as people with grateful hearts.<\/p>\n\n<p>Blessings\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They did not honor God nor give thanks to Him.
