{"id":1691,"date":"2024-09-26T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-26T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/KP2\/?p=1691"},"modified":"2023-12-02T13:10:26","modified_gmt":"2023-12-02T13:10:26","slug":"september-26-traveling-through","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drkenrpruitt.com\/KP2\/september-26-traveling-through\/","title":{"rendered":"September 26, traveling through"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"1691\" class=\"elementor elementor-1691\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-740a68de elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"740a68de\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7a7ddcb9\" data-id=\"7a7ddcb9\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31731c19 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"31731c19\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>Dear friends,&nbsp;I urge you, as&nbsp;<strong>foreigners<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>exiles . . .&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I Peter 2:11-12<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Bible refers to followers of Christ as&nbsp;foreigners in this world<\/strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;Christians living in the diaspora of the late first century, those who scattered (\u201cdispersed\u201d) abroad under Nero\u2019s persecution, would undoubtedly have understood that they had been displaced.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, the idea of \u201cforeigner\u201d went well beyond the geographical to the spiritual.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>foreign aspects<\/em>&nbsp;of the identity of Christians stand as a direct consequence of faith in Jesus Christ.&nbsp;&nbsp;As emphasized in the previous verses (I Peter 2:9-10), the identity of Christians as a \u201choly nation\u201d indicated a contradistinction to the former life (without Christ).&nbsp;&nbsp;Once in spiritual darkness because of sin, the true believer has been brought into God\u2019s marvelous light though Jesus Christ our Lord.&nbsp;&nbsp;And Peter rightly acknowledged that this is because of God\u2019s mercy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now, we are distinguished spiritually as&nbsp;<em>not of this present world and culture<\/em>&nbsp;\u2013 so much so, that we are like aliens in a foreign land.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are foreigners before a world darkened by sin.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The traditional&nbsp;idea<\/em>&nbsp;of a foreigner in Peter\u2019s day, whether displaced to reside in another land&nbsp;<em>or<\/em>&nbsp;just passing through as a traveler, represented one who did not participate in the values and customs of the host culture.&nbsp;&nbsp;Because of this, foreigners were observable and very noticeable in ways that preserved their true identity.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Spiritual application<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>represents the call to abstain from fleshly desires of the present culture before which the believer stands as a foreigner.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also, the believer in Christ must conduct him or herself in a way distinguished from the present culture so that others will \u201c<em>observe your good works and glorify God<\/em>.\u201d In this world, the goal in persecution, sufferings, and difficulties stands as the preservation of your true identity as a follower of Jesus.&nbsp;&nbsp;You are of another life, another Kingdom, another world \u2013 you are not of this world, but of our Heavenly home.
