October 15, Sing to the Lord a New Song

A young woman is using a mobile phone and wireless headphones outdoor during Christmas

Sing to the Lord a new song.

Psalm 96:1

I heard someone playing a Christmas song yesterday.  Wow, Christmas!  We are not that close, are we?  I’m counting 71 days away.  (I suppose for many that seems close.)  But I must say, as I heard “that old familiar carol play,” there was a stirring.  As the song filled the air,  I immediately reminisced of Christmas experiences gone by.  Many images flooded through my mind.  And the memories came simply because I heard a familiar Christmas song.

Wow! The power of music. The joy of our memories.  And, the majesty of the name of Jesus.

So, today, regardless of the season, listen to music that proclaims Jesus. And, listen to the song with someone.  Or, as a song blesses you, send that blessing to someone else.  Sing out in a worship service.  Or, listen intently as you are led.  But, tune in to music about our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Do not wait until Christmas.  Begin now.

Allow the power of God-ordained music to fill your soul. I realize you have favorite songs, genres, artists, and styles.  And, I realize that most smart phones have the capability to bring hundreds of thousands of songs right to your ears.  But, don’t just settle for music.  Fill your life with the songs of the redeemed and songs of the Redeemer.  And, even if you play your favorite over and over again, ask God to give you a new song – a fresh song of worship on your lips every morning.

Music is powerful. Music is moving. Music stirs the emotions and activates the memory.  This is why filling your life with songs of worship becomes so important.  You may later recall what you are singing at this very moment.  And, you may need the message that uplifts more than entertains.

So, although you might enjoy country, jazz, classic or contemporary, fill your life with the songs of our Savior.  And, go forward with a new song in your heart.

Blessings.
